What causes contraceptives to increase breast size?
Contraceptives work by pausing ovulation through simulation of pregnancy. When you take birth control, you are tricking your body into thinking it is already pregnant. As a result, the body prepares itself for giving birth – and in doing so increases the size of the breasts for the purpose of lactation, even though no milk will be produced.
Will contraceptives give all women who take them bigger boobs?
Increased breast size is a relatively common side effect with birth control users. However, your mileage may vary. If you have a blood relative who experienced increased breast size while taking birth control, it may be more likely that you will experience that as well.
Are there contraceptives that have a higher chance of increasing breast size than others?

However, taking birth control with a very high estrogen content can be dangerous. Large quantities of estrogen in the body can result in a higher likelihood of blood clotting. A sudden blood clot can be fatal. Additionally, high dosages of estrogen may also cause more severe mood swings, weight gain or loss, nausea, vomitting, and irregular bleeding. Such side effects do occur at low estrogen dosages, but are more likely to occur and may be more severe with high doses. Therefore, it is adviseable to be very careful when taking such pills, if you do at all.
What about the opposite? What if I don’t want my breast size to increase any more?
Some women may not want their breast size to increase. After all, there can be too much of a good thing. When your breasts get larger, you may have to get a whole new set of bras, which can be expensive. Larger breasts can also cause back pain over time.
If you do not want larger breasts, it is advisable to take a contraceptive with a lower estrogen content. It is generally recommended to take a lower dosage of estrogen, due to it being much safer than a high dosage. Be warned that even a smaller dosage can stil increase breast size, though it is far less likely to occur to the degree it may when taking high dosage pills, if it all.
